Street Photography Adventures
It was a sunny Thursday afternoon, right after lunch, a group of friends and I walked around Mongkok. We were spontaneously walking down Nathan Road all the way to Tsim Sha Tsui. We weren’t sure of where we would end up with, but had a lot of fun along the way as we encountered different areas and people on the streets.
Mongkok
Mongkok during the day and night are quite busy streets. Vibrant colors, lights, smells, and all kinds of sounds. I found this mural of all the favorite local treats! Lemon ice tea, milk tea, pinapple buns, coconut buns, egg tarts, and a simple “gong chai min”, in other words, instant noodles.
Temple Street • Yau Ma Tei
Temple Street is another popular place for night life. We met an uncle along the way and he was the owner of a “dai pai dong”, an open air food stall. He invited us many times to his restaurant at night, saying it was one of the best places to eat. He also shared a bit about the living conditions in the city, as rent in Hong Kong is really expensive and it’s challenging to buy your own apartment. As there has been less tourists in the area due to COVID, he’s been selling small accessories in the street to also earn a bit of income apart from the restaurant.
Our group walking along the long street of Nathan Road. We enjoyed the walk, stopped by different places to take pictures with our phones and also trying out film photography. It was fun to dress up a bit more and go out to enjoy God’s creativity and beauty in the city. It was important for us to express creativity and joy!
