Learning my way around Battambang

Boeung Chhouk Market

It’s been 2 weeks in since I got here to Battambang and after a few years without traveling, it’s been amazing to learn how to do life here.

Tuk Tuk using PassApp

First of all, the PassApp is everything! It’s an app used for transportation, as motorcycles are the main way of getting around. These “Tuk Tuks” are what we have been using to get to places. It’s been really easy and simple to learn!

The hours to be out in the streets are safer during the day. Hong Kong is pretty safe at night, so I was used to going back home at 11pm or midnight. In Cambodia, it’s best to go out with people and come back around 9pm. It’s pretty safe here as well but it’s good to be cautious and making wise decisions as a guest in this nation.

Pork BBQ, Eggs, and Rice

The food has been great! It’s not too spicy and rice is usually the main dish, accompanied by other side dishes with protein and vegetables. Khmer dishes also include soups in many meals. I’ve tried some of their famous Khmer dishes like beef lok lak and fish amok. It’s so good!

Fish Amok by staff in UofN Battambang

Battambang is a small city and it has a lot to explore! There are so many coffee shops and artsy places, I can’t wait to keep adventuring around. I also want to visit more local places. Thankful for local Khmer friends that have taken me and our team from Hong Kong to explore more of Battambang.

In the next months, I’ll be sharing more about school of worship, missions and adventures in Cambodia!
